The Counterweight Exchange

Collect the white diamond before releasing the counterweights. Watergirl then boards the low blue lift while Fireboy uses the heavy block to raise it to her exit.

Level objective

Collect all 1 ring-marked diamond, then bring Fireboy to the orange exit in the lower center and Watergirl to the blue exit in the lower right. Both heroes must be at their own doors together.

Step-by-step walkthrough

  1. Leave the circuits off for the first climb

Fireboy climbs the entrance steps on the left. Cross the green lever and then cross it again so it is off before continuing. Keep Watergirl on the starting floor. The orange and blue platforms should still be in their starting positions.

  2. Climb the right-hand stepping stones

Fireboy crosses his matching lava and climbs the small middle platform. Jump right onto the next stone, right again onto the shelf at the outside wall, then left onto the highest small stepping stone below the white diamond.

  3. Jump around the white roof

Run towards the right edge of this stepping stone and jump out to the right of the roof above. Turn left while still rising to land on its sloping right tip. Walk left across the roof to collect the required white diamond.

  4. Release the light blocks

Watergirl climbs the entrance steps and crosses the green lever once. Leave it on. The first light block lowers its pulley onto the orange plate, releasing the second counterweight. The second light block then lowers onto the blue plate, lowering both blue lifts on the right.

  5. Board the lowest blue lift

Watergirl returns left around the entrance steps and drops to the bottom floor. Walk right through the opened orange gate. From just left of the low blue lift, jump right onto it and wait near its centre.

  6. Reach the heavy block

Fireboy steps off the white roof to the right and steers left onto the stepping stone below. Jump left along the upper route, pass underneath the hanging wall and jump up to the right side of the heavy block.

  7. Reverse the outer counterweight

Push the heavy block left onto the raised pulley deck. Jump back right onto the stone ledge as the block starts descending. Its weight lifts the opposite light block off the blue plate. The blue lifts rise with Watergirl still standing on the lower one.

  8. Enter the blue exit

Once her lift stops, Watergirl walks left onto the adjoining stone ledge and follows it down to the blue door. Leave the heavy block on its pulley so the blue circuit stays off.

  9. Return Fireboy to the bottom exit

Fireboy walks right off the upper ledge and steers into the narrow safe gap between the two purple pools. Jump left over the lower purple pool, cross the lava and continue left around the entrance steps. Drop to the bottom floor and walk right through the orange gate to the red door. Either character may enter first.

This route was verified in the game simulation using player controls, required diamonds, and both matching exits. It describes this version’s independently reconstructed room, not an official walkthrough.

How this room’s mechanisms work

  • Switch 1

    middle left

Keep a hero or movable weight on this plate to keep its signal active. Stepping off releases it.

Controls Moving platform 2, Moving platform 3, Moving platform 4, and Moving platform 5.

  • Switch 2

    middle left

Keep a hero or movable weight on this plate to keep its signal active. Stepping off releases it.

Controls Moving platform 6, Moving platform 7, Moving platform 8, and Moving platform 9.

  • Switch 3

    lower left

Walk past the handle, or use it nearby: Enter for Fireboy, E for Watergirl, or the touch Use button. Each use toggles it; it stays set after you leave.

    Controls Moving platform 1.

  • Moving platform 1

    upper left

At least one of these inputs must be active: Switch 3.

When powered, it moves left; when power is released, it returns.

  • Moving platform 2

    upper left

At least one of these inputs must be active: Switch 1.

When powered, it moves right; when power is released, it returns.

  • Moving platform 3

    upper right

At least one of these inputs must be active: Switch 1.

When powered, it moves down; when power is released, it returns.

  • Moving platform 10

    upper left

The relative weight on its connected platforms drives this platform.

Loading one side of the pulley pair lowers that side and raises the other.

  • Moving platform 11

    middle left

The relative weight on its connected platforms drives this platform.

Loading one side of the pulley pair lowers that side and raises the other.

  • Moving platform 12

Loading one side of the pulley pair lowers that side and raises the other.

  • Stone box 1

    upper left

Walk against its side to push it along its supporting surface.

A box can provide a step, load a counterweighted lift, or hold a pressure plate where the room’s layout allows. Follow the room route before moving it.

If you get stuck

Check the unfinished objective

Count the ring-marked diamonds still visible. All 1 are required before both matching doors can finish this room; each hero collects their own color.

A gate or platform moved back

A pressure plate releases when its rider or weight leaves. Keep your partner on it until you are safely across. Levers stay set after you leave; check their ON or OFF state before crossing.

A pulley is moving the wrong way

Loading one platform lowers that side and raises its partner. Shift the riders or movable weight as described in the route. A thin lift does not protect you from a dangerous pool when it sinks into the liquid.

You missed a moving platform

Return to safe ground and use the connected switch to bring it back. Board before your partner releases the plate or changes the lever. Avoid jumping into its underside; line up with the open shaft first.

You cannot recover safely

Pause and choose Restart level to reset both heroes, diamonds, weights, and switches. Previously completed levels stay saved. Follow the step order before moving a box or releasing a weight.

Level questions

How do you finish The Counterweight Exchange?

Collect the white diamond before releasing the counterweights. Watergirl then boards the low blue lift while Fireboy uses the heavy block to raise it to her exit. Collect all 1 ring-marked diamond, then bring Fireboy to the orange exit in the lower center and Watergirl to the blue exit in the lower right. Both heroes must be at their own doors together.

How many diamonds are required in The Counterweight Exchange?

1 diamond: 1 for either hero. 1 ring-marked diamond is required to finish.

Which hazards are in The Counterweight Exchange?

1 orange lava pool (lower center) and 2 purple goo pools (lower right and lower center). Fireboy can enter orange lava; Watergirl must avoid it. Purple goo defeats either hero. If either hero falls into a dangerous pool, both players restart the level.

What do the switches do in The Counterweight Exchange?

Switch 1 (middle left): Controls Moving platform 2, Moving platform 3, Moving platform 4, and Moving platform 5. Keep a hero or movable weight on this plate to keep its signal active. Stepping off releases it. Switch 2 (middle left): Controls Moving platform 6, Moving platform 7, Moving platform 8, and Moving platform 9. Keep a hero or movable weight on this plate to keep its signal active. Stepping off releases it. Switch 3 (lower left): Controls Moving platform 1. Walk past the handle, or use it nearby: Enter for Fireboy, E for Watergirl, or the touch Use button. Each use toggles it; it stays set after you leave.
